Definitions and Editorial Labels

Last updated: March 23, 2026

This page explains how Welpr uses certain recurring terms across our website, app, and related content.

These definitions are intended to provide context for our editorial language. They are not medical advice, legal guarantees, warranties, certifications, or promises that a product will be appropriate for every person or situation.

Important context

  • Our labels reflect Welpr's editorial judgment and internal review criteria.
  • Our views may evolve as product information, ingredient disclosures, certifications, and scientific research change.
  • People have different needs, sensitivities, allergies, and risk tolerances.
  • Product formulas, materials, manufacturing processes, and sourcing can change without notice.

Terms we use

Non-toxic / Nontoxic

When Welpr uses "non-toxic" or "nontoxic," we are using that term as editorial shorthand for products that, based on the information available to us, align with Welpr's review criteria and appear to avoid certain ingredients, materials, or exposures that we generally try to limit or avoid.

This does not mean a product is literally free of all risk, universally safe, harmless in every quantity, or suitable for every person, home, child, or pet.

Safe / Safer

When Welpr uses "safe" or "safer," we are generally speaking in comparative, editorial terms based on the information available to us at the time of review.

When we say a product is "safer," we generally mean that, in Welpr's judgment, it may present fewer or different concerns than other products in the same category based on available information.

These terms do not mean a product is risk-free, appropriate for every person or situation, or guaranteed to be harmless under all conditions of use.

"Safer" is a relative term, not an absolute one.

Cleaner / Clean

When Welpr uses "cleaner" or "clean," we are usually referring to our editorial assessment of a product's ingredients, materials, disclosures, or formulation profile compared with conventional alternatives in the same category.

These terms do not mean a product is chemically simple, risk-free, or endorsed by any government agency.

Better-for-you

When we use "better-for-you," we mean that a product may better align with the preferences or priorities reflected in Welpr's standards than some competing options.

This does not guarantee health outcomes or suitability for your specific body, household, or circumstances.

Healthy / Healthier

When Welpr uses "healthy" or "healthier," we are generally speaking in broad editorial terms about products, routines, or home environments that may better align with our standards and preferences than conventional alternatives.

These terms are not medical claims and do not mean that a product or practice is proven to improve health, prevent disease, or be appropriate for every person, home, child, or pet.

"Healthier" is also a relative term, not an absolute one.

Vetted

"Vetted" means Welpr has reviewed the product, brand, or category information available to us using our internal process, which may include ingredient review, certifications, brand disclosures, category standards, or other signals we consider relevant.

"Vetted" does not mean laboratory tested by Welpr, approved by a regulator, or guaranteed to meet every user's personal standard.

Welpr Rating / Welpr Approved

Welpr ratings, badges, and approval language are editorial tools intended to summarize our internal assessment and help users compare options more efficiently.

They are opinions and organizational tools, not guarantees, medical claims, or certifications.

Your responsibility

You should always use your own judgment before purchasing or using a product. If you have allergies, sensitivities, medical conditions, pregnancy-related concerns, or other specific needs, review the manufacturer's current labeling and consult an appropriate professional when needed.
