WELPRHow to Swap to Non-Toxic bar soap:
Here's how to swap to non-toxic bar soap:
What to know about bar soap
Bar soap sits on your skin briefly but is used daily, and usually on your entire body. Welpr looks at the formulation — the base oils or fats, the fragrance, the preservatives, and any extra additives — to make sure every ingredient serves a purpose and meets non-toxic standards.
- Because bar soap touches so much of your skin every day, even small differences in formulation add up over time.
- Many conventional bar soaps include synthetic fragrance, harsh surfactants, or unnecessary additives that cleaner options skip entirely.
Check what you're using now
Use the Welpr Personal Care and Cosmetic Scanner to check the bar soap you currently use. Take a photo of the ingredient label and the scanner will flag anything worth knowing about.
- Start with the bar soap you reach for most often — if you use different bars for your body, face, or hands, check the one you use on the largest area of skin first.
- On the label, look for the word "fragrance" or "parfum" — these usually signal synthetic fragrance, which Welpr does not allow unless it's fully disclosed and third-party certified safe.
Use your current bar soap more safely
If you're not ready to replace your bar soap right away, a few small changes can make a difference. Reducing how much product stays on your skin is the simplest approach.
- Rinse thoroughly after lathering — the less time any formula sits on your skin, the less exposure you get.
- Save a cleaner bar for your face and larger skin areas, and use up a less-ideal bar for just hand washing, where contact is brief.
Choose a cleaner bar soap
Look for bar soaps with simple, short ingredient lists built on natural oils or fats like olive oil, coconut oil, or tallow. The best options skip synthetic fragrance, harsh sulfates, and unnecessary additives.
- Choose fragrance-free bars, or bars scented only with essential oils or plant extracts — avoid anything that just lists "fragrance" or "parfum" without full disclosure.
