What to know about body glitter and shimmer
Body glitter and shimmer products are applied directly to skin and often used on large, visible areas like the face, chest, arms, and shoulders. Because they sit on skin for hours and are frequently used near the eyes and mouth, what they're made of matters.
- Many shimmer products get their sparkle from synthetic glitter particles, plastic-based microplastics, or metallic pigments that can contain trace heavy metals.
- Products applied near the eyes, lips, or on broken skin deserve the most attention since absorption and accidental ingestion are more likely.
Review what you already use
