What to know about cloth diapers
Cloth diapers sit directly against your baby's skin for hours at a time, covering a large and sensitive area of the body. Because of this constant, prolonged contact, the materials they are made from and how they are finished matter.

Review the cloth diapers you already have
Check the labels or product listings for your current cloth diapers. Look at what fibers they are made from and whether the manufacturer mentions any certifications or details about dyes and finishes.
- Look for terms like "organic cotton," "GOTS certified," or "OEKO-TEX Standard 100" — these indicate the fabrics have been tested or produced with fewer chemical treatments.
- Start by reviewing the diapers your baby wears most often or overnight, since those have the longest skin contact.
Use your current cloth diapers more safely
If you are not ready to replace your cloth diapers right away, a few simple steps can reduce what comes in contact with your baby's skin. New diapers especially can carry residues from manufacturing.
