How to Swap to Non-Toxic dish soap:

Here's how to swap to non-toxic dish soap:

What to know about dish soap

Dish soap is a product most people use daily, often with bare hands soaking in sudsy water. Because of that frequent skin contact, what's in the formula matters more than you might think.

  • Many conventional dish soaps contain synthetic fragrances, harsh sulfates, and undisclosed preservatives that can linger on hands and dishes after rinsing.
  • Welpr looks for transparent formulas free from harsh sulfates like SLS and SLES, synthetic fragrance, parabens, phthalates, dyes, and other unnecessary additives.

Check the dish soap you have now

Flip your dish soap bottle over and look at the ingredient list. Some brands are fully transparent, while others use vague terms like "cleaning agents" or "proprietary blend" without listing specifics.

  • Look for red flags like "fragrance" or "parfum" without further detail, as well as terms like sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), sodium laureth sulfate (SLES), or any dyes listed by color and number.
  • If your bottle doesn't list full ingredients, check the brand's website — brands that won't disclose their formula are worth replacing first.

Use your current dish soap more carefully

If you're not ready to replace your dish soap right away, a couple of small changes can reduce how much your skin absorbs. This is especially worth doing if you hand-wash dishes frequently.

  • Wear rubber gloves when washing dishes to create a barrier between the formula and your skin.
  • Use less soap than you normally would — a small amount still gets the job done, and it means less residue on your hands and dishes.

Choose a cleaner dish soap

Look for dish soaps with short, fully disclosed ingredient lists and no synthetic fragrance. Unscented formulas are ideal, but scents from essential oils or fully disclosed plant-based sources are a good option too.

  • Certifications like EWG VERIFIED™ or MADE SAFE® are helpful signals, but also check that the brand is transparent about every ingredient — not just the highlighted ones.
  • Click the button above to shop Welpr Approved dish soap.
