Here's how to swap to non-toxic face masks:
What to know about face masks
Face masks sit directly on your skin for extended periods, giving ingredients more time to absorb. Because they cover large areas of your face, the formulation matters more than with products you rinse off quickly. Welpr focuses on what the mask is made with — the base ingredients, fragrances, preservatives, and any added extras.
- Masks you use frequently (daily or several times a week) deserve the most attention since repeated exposure adds up.
- Leave-on and overnight masks are higher priority than quick rinse-off masks because of the longer skin contact time.
Review what you already use
Check the face masks you currently own by using the Welpr Personal Care and Cosmetic Scanner. It reads your ingredient label and flags anything that doesn't meet Welpr's standards.
- Start with the mask you use most often or the one that stays on your skin the longest — that's where it matters most.
- Look for "fragrance" or "parfum" on the label — if it's listed without further detail, that's worth noting.
Use your current face masks more safely
If you're not ready to replace a mask right away, small adjustments can help. Reducing how long the mask sits on your skin and how often you use it can lower overall exposure.
- Follow the minimum recommended time rather than leaving the mask on longer than directed.
- If a mask causes any tingling, redness, or irritation, rinse it off early — your skin may be reacting to something in the formula.
Choose cleaner replacements
Look for face masks with simple, functional ingredient lists. Welpr approves masks that are free from harsh preservatives, parabens, phthalates, and other unnecessary additives. Certifications like EWG VERIFIED™ or MADE SAFE® are a good sign, but Welpr reviews the full formula regardless.
- Choose fragrance-free masks, or ones scented only with essential oils or plant extracts — skip anything that just lists "fragrance" or "parfum."
