How to Swap to Non-Toxic setting sprays:

Here's how to swap to non-toxic setting sprays:

What to know about setting spray

Setting spray is misted directly onto your face, often daily, and sits on your skin for hours. That combination of frequent use, direct facial contact, and prolonged skin exposure makes its formulation worth paying attention to.

  • Many setting sprays contain synthetic fragrances, harsh preservatives, or unnecessary additives that stay on your skin all day.
  • Because it's sprayed as a fine mist near your eyes, nose, and mouth, what's in the formula matters more than with products applied to less sensitive areas.

Check the setting spray you already use

Use the Welpr Personal Care and Cosmetic Scanner to check your current setting spray. Take a picture of the ingredient label and Welpr will flag any ingredients worth knowing about.

  • Look on the back or bottom of the bottle for the full ingredient list — marketing claims on the front don't tell the whole story.
  • If you use setting spray every day, check that one first since daily-use products that sit on your face are the highest priority.

Use your current setting spray more carefully

If you're not ready to switch yet, small changes in how you apply setting spray can reduce what your skin and lungs absorb. Replacing a daily-use facial product doesn't always happen overnight, and that's okay.

  • Hold the bottle at least 8–10 inches from your face, close your eyes and mouth, and spray in a well-ventilated area to limit what you breathe in.
  • Use fewer sprays per application — one or two light passes is usually enough to set makeup without over-saturating your skin.

Choose a cleaner setting spray

Look for setting sprays with simple, intentional formulas. The best options skip synthetic fragrance, harsh preservatives, and unnecessary additives while still holding your makeup in place.

  • Choose fragrance-free options or ones scented only with essential oils or plant extracts — avoid anything listing "fragrance" or "parfum" without full disclosure.
  • Click the button above to shop Welpr Approved setting spray.
