Here's how to swap to non-toxic waffle makers:
The cooking surface is what matters most. Waffle makers heat up and press directly against your food, so the materials on that surface determine what could transfer into what you eat. Most waffle makers use nonstick coatings, and not all nonstick is created equal.
Look up the product listing or manual for your current waffle maker and find out what the cooking plates are made of. The key detail is the type of nonstick coating or surface material used.
If you're not ready to replace your waffle maker, a few small habits can help reduce what transfers from the cooking surface to your food. This is especially worth doing if your plates are scratched or the coating is wearing off.
Look for waffle makers with cooking surfaces made from safe, non-reactive materials. Cast iron and certified PFAS-free ceramic nonstick are the best options. Stainless steel plates are another solid choice when available.
