How We Vet Baby Products on Welpr

Babies are extra sensitive. Their skin is thinner, their bodies are still developing, and their exposure to toxins can have a much bigger impact. That’s why we’re super selective about everything from what they sleep in to what goes in their mouths.

Here’s how we vet baby products on Welpr:

Baby Clothes icon

Clothing, Bedding + Upholstered Products

We prioritize natural, breathable fibers like organic cotton, wool, and linen. If a product contains synthetics, it must be free from common toxins like PFAS and flame retardants, and ideally backed by a trusted third-party certification.

Bottles + Breast Milk Storage

Glass is our go-to (always lead-free), but when glass isn’t practical, we allow safer plastics that are BPA-free, phthalate-free, and PVC-free. Materials are always clearly listed, so you know exactly what’s touching your baby’s food.

Feeding Sets, Toys + Pacifiers

We stick to food-grade silicone and natural rubber for anything that goes in your baby’s mouth. And when it comes to toys, we love organic cotton with clean, natural fill.

Diapers icon

Diapers, Wipes + Pull-Ups

We only list options that are free from chlorine, synthetic fragrance, and dyes, and ideally also free from PFAS.  For wipes, our favorite picks are made with pure cotton and water. If a safe preservative is needed, sodium benzoate is our go-to.

Baby Food

Only real, simple ingredients with no added sugar, preservatives, or artificial flavors. Organic and BPA-free packaging is always prioritized.

Furniture + Foam Products

We look for solid wood with low- or zero-VOC finishes, especially when backed by third-party certifications. If foam is used (like in car seats or play mats), it must be certified by CertiPUR-US® or GREENGUARD to ensure it’s free from flame retardants, VOCs, and formaldehyde.

Baby Care icon

Cleaning, Personal Care, Sunscreen + Nail Products

We apply the same strict standards we use for adult products, with an even closer eye on preservatives and allergens. Unscented is preferred, and synthetic fragrance is never allowed unless it’s fully disclosed and certified safe. We only include sunscreens with mineral filters instead of hormone-disrupting chemical UV filters.

Find Non-Toxic Products icon

Always free from:

  • Endocrine disruptors like phthalates, parabens, PEGs, quats, and chemical UV filters (including oxybenzone, octinoxate, avobenzone, octocrylene, and homosalate)
  • Skin irritants and allergens like synthetic fragrance (unless fully disclosed and third-party certified safe), triclosan, sulfates, and artificial dyes
  • Carcinogens and respiratory toxins like formaldehyde and formaldehyde-releasing agents, flame retardants, and VOCs
  • Problematic plastics like BPA, PVC, and other non-food-safe plastics
  • Questionable additives like artificial sweeteners, flavors, and preservatives not shown to be safe for infants
  • Heavy metals
  • Chlorine (especially in diapers and wipes)
Product safety

Transparency is non-negotiable

If a brand doesn’t list what’s in their product, it doesn’t make it onto Welpr. You’ll always know what you're bringing into your baby’s world.

When there’s no perfect option

Some baby products (like ball pits or nail polish) are just tougher to make fully non-toxic. If nothing meets all our standards, we’ll still choose the safest option available and clearly break down what it’s made from and what it’s free from.

And when something does check every box, you’ll see the Welpr Approved certification on the product card.
