How We Vet Bedding on Welpr

You spend a third of your life in bed, so what you’re sleeping on (and in) really matters. From the fabric to the fill to the waterproof backing, we check every detail to make sure your bed is a safe, non-toxic sanctuary.

Here’s what we look for before anything makes it onto the site:

Natural fibers first

We prioritize organic cotton, linen, hemp, wool, silk, leather, and natural latex. We’ll allow viscose from bamboo if it’s responsibly made, and avoid products made with azo dyes.

No synthetic fills

We look for bedding filled with natural materials like wool, down, or plant-based alternatives like kapok.

Waterproof icon

Plastic, only when necessary

Sometimes you need a waterproof layer (like in a mattress protector). In those cases, we allow plastic or polyester only if it’s a safer version that’s free of PFAS, phthalates, and VOCs, backed by certifications, and not touching your skin.

Foam must be clean

If a product contains foam, it has to be certified safe (like GOLS or CertiPUR-US®) and totally free from formaldehyde, flame retardants, phthalates, and other common toxins.

Certifications matter, but they’re not everything

We love certifications like GOTS, OEKO-TEX®, MADE SAFE®, and GREENGUARD Gold, but they’re not enough on their own. We review the materials, sourcing, and brand behind every product we list on Welpr.

Product safety

Only from transparent brands

We choose brands that are upfront about what’s in their products and how they’re made, especially those committed to ethical sourcing, low-waste production, and fair labor.

Look for the Welpr Approved tag

If a product does meet our full standards (which all bedding on Welpr does), you’ll see the Welpr Approved certification on the product card.
