How We Vet Nail Products on Welpr
Nail products are tough. Between the plastic, solvents, and synthetic ingredients, even the “clean” ones aren’t totally non-toxic. But we’ve found a few that come close, and you’ll find them here on Welpr
“X-Free” Isn’t Enough
You’ve probably seen labels like “10-free” or “21-free.” They sound good, but there’s no standard definition, so we don’t rely on the label. We read the full ingredient list ourselves, every time.
We cut the worst offenders
We avoid anything linked to hormone disruption, allergic reactions, formaldehyde exposure, or respiratory irritation. That includes things like toluene, DBP, and formaldehyde-releasing resins.
Here’s what else we look for:
- Safer monomers only: We allow polyethyl methacrylate (PEMA), and in rare cases, small amounts of ethyl methacrylate (EMA) if it’s well-formulated, clearly disclosed, and backed by solid safety data.
- Never MMA: Methyl methacrylate (MMA) is banned in a lot of places for a reason—and we never allow it.
- Full transparency: No mystery blends or “resins.” Every single ingredient has to be listed.
- Better pigments: We avoid artificial dyes that aren’t approved for nails and always call out what’s used for color.
Welpr Approved nail products are free from:
- Formaldehyde + formaldehyde-releasing compounds
- Toluene, DBP, MMA, benzoyl peroxide
- Benzophenone-1
- Phthalates + parabens
- Synthetic fragrance
- Dyes not approved for nail use (like Red 3)
- Undisclosed or proprietary blends
When there’s no perfect option
Some products (like press-ons or dip powders) are just harder to make totally non-toxic. If we can’t find anything that meets all our standards, we still include the cleanest pick out there and break down exactly what’s in it.
And when a product does check every box, you’ll see the Welpr Approved certification on the product card.
