Fully integrated design means the controls are hidden on top of the door, so the front panel matches your cabinetry with no visible buttons.
Uses a condensation drying system called CrystalDry, which converts moisture into heat to dry dishes (including plastics) without a heated dry element blasting hot air.
PrecisionWash uses sensors to scan dishes throughout the cycle and direct water where it's needed, rather than relying on a single uniform spray pattern.
The flexible third rack adds a shallow top tier for utensils and small items, freeing up space in the lower racks for larger pieces. The middle rack is also height-adjustable.
Wi-Fi enabled through Home Connect, which lets you start cycles, monitor progress, and access additional wash cycles from your phone. Three of the eight total wash cycles are only available through the app.
For anyone comparing non-toxic dishwashers with a stainless steel interior: the tub here is fully stainless, which avoids the plastic tub liners found in many lower-priced models.

Built-In Stainless Steel Tub Dishwasher (24 In)

Pros

Runs very quietly, even in open-concept layouts where the kitchen is next to living spaces.
The adjustable top rack creates enough room on the bottom to fit large pots and oversized items.
The silverware rack keeps utensils organized and cleans items like straws thoroughly.
The smart wash cycle detects soil levels and adjusts water usage automatically.

Cons

The touchscreen controls are inconsistent; multiple people found buttons unresponsive or requiring different gestures to register.
The installation manual is poorly written with small, hard-to-read black-and-white images, and instructions aren't model-specific.
Drying performance is mediocre; dishes don't come out fully dry.
The door latch mechanism broke within a few months for one person, rendering the unit unusable.

Built-in dishwasher with a stainless steel tub, which matters because stainless resists stains and retains heat better than plastic tubs, improving drying performance without extra energy.
The SmartWash cycle uses sensors to read how dirty the water is, then adjusts temperature, pressure, and cycle time automatically. You don't pick settings; it figures out what the load needs.
For people shopping non-toxic dishwashers, the stainless steel interior is worth noting: unlike some plastic tubs, it won't absorb odors or discolor over time.
Includes a Sani Rinse option that eliminates 99.999% of bacteria on dishes and glassware, useful if you have young kids or want extra assurance on cutting boards and bottles.
The upper rack adjusts to two height levels or removes entirely, so oversized items like stockpots or baking sheets can fit in the lower rack without a Tetris game.
Has a half-load option that runs only one rack, so you're not wasting a full cycle's worth of water and energy on a light day.

Built-in, full-size dishwasher with a stainless steel interior tub, which resists staining and odor absorption better than plastic tubs and is worth noting if you're shopping for non-toxic dishwashers.
Six wash programs and a delay start timer (up to 24 hours) let you run cycles during off-peak energy hours or time them around your schedule.
The tall tub design accommodates larger items like baking sheets and stockpots that shorter tubs can't fit.
Runs at 52 dB, which is moderate; you'll hear it from the next room but it won't drown out a conversation in the kitchen.
BLACK+DECKER is a division of Stanley Black & Decker, a large tool and home products conglomerate, not a specialty appliance maker. Their dishwasher line is manufactured and distributed through a licensing partner called Equity Brands.

Pros

Cleans dishes thoroughly, with multiple people reporting items coming out spotless even without heavy pre-scrubbing.
Runs quietly enough to use in the same room without disrupting conversation or sleep.
Setup is quick and straightforward; most people had it connected to a sink faucet and running within minutes.
Fits a surprising amount of dishes for its size, though pots and pans take up most of the interior.
Powder or liquid detergent works better than pods, which may not fully dissolve in the smaller wash chamber.

Cons

Multiple units arrived with dents or cosmetic damage to the exterior casing.
Pots, pans, and larger cookware eat up most of the rack space, leaving little room for anything else.
The listed dimensions may not be perfectly accurate, which can complicate planning counter or cart space.
The door latch feels flimsy, and at least one person reported the door popping open during use.

Connects directly to most kitchen faucets via a quick-connect adapter, so there's no permanent plumbing or installation required.
Sized to fit under most cabinets, this holds six place settings at a time, which is practical for one or two people, small apartments, or as a secondary dishwasher.
Eight wash cycles include a baby care mode (higher temperature for sanitizing bottles and accessories) and a mini party mode for quick turnaround when you're entertaining.
Operates at 54 decibels, which is roughly the volume of a quiet conversation, so it won't drown out your kitchen.
If you're browsing non-toxic dishwashers because you want to avoid plastic interiors, this one has a stainless-steel interior rather than the molded plastic found in many countertop models.

Midea

Built-in Dishwasher (18 In)

Highlights: 2 year warranty, Built-in, 18 in, Energy Star certified

7.5

Performance score

Pros

Cleans dishes thoroughly, with multiple people noting spotless results even on heavily soiled items.
Runs quietly enough to use in small spaces like apartments and RVs without being disruptive.
Holds more than expected for its size; one person noted it comfortably handles 8 place settings.
Installation is straightforward, though a few people recommend buying additional hoses and fittings separately.

Cons

The lower rack sits too close to the upper rack, so standard dinner plates can obstruct the rotating spray arm.
Control button lettering started rubbing off within a week of use on one unit.
Normal wash cycle takes about two hours.
May not include all connection parts (water line, hose clamps) despite product listing claims; a few people had to buy extras.

Built as an 18-inch unit, this is narrower than the standard 24-inch dishwasher, so it fits into tighter kitchen layouts common in apartments, condos, and RVs where a full-size machine won't work.
Stainless steel interior tub instead of an all-plastic one. The steel absorbs and holds heat better during the dry cycle, which helps dishes actually come out dry rather than sitting in residual moisture.
Six wash programs (Heavy, Normal, ECO, Delicate, Quick, Rinse) plus a high-temperature wash option that heats water to 160°F for baked-on messes or sanitizing baby bottles and kids' dishes.
Folding tines on the bottom rack and a height-adjustable upper rack let you reconfigure the interior to fit taller items like pots and pans up to 11 inches.
For anyone shopping non-toxic dishwashers for a smaller household, the 8 place setting capacity is enough for a couple or small family but won't handle a full dinner party's worth of dishes in one load.

How to Swap to Non-Toxic dishwashers:

Here's how to swap to non-toxic dishwashers:

What to know about dishwashers

Welpr looks at the materials inside your dishwasher that come in contact with your dishes during wash cycles. The interior tub, racks, and any coatings are what matter most since hot water and steam can cause certain materials to break down or transfer residues onto the items you eat and drink from.

Stainless steel interiors are the gold standard — they're non-reactive, durable, and won't leach chemicals even at high temperatures.
Plastic tub interiors are more common in budget models and can degrade over time with repeated heat exposure.

Check what's inside your current dishwasher

Open your dishwasher and look at the interior tub, racks, and any coatings. Your owner's manual or the manufacturer's website will list the materials used. Focus on what's touching your dishes during hot wash and dry cycles.

If the interior walls feel like hard plastic rather than metal, you likely have a plastic tub — check the manual to confirm.
Look at rack coatings too; vinyl-coated racks can chip over time, exposing bare metal that may rust onto dishes.

Use your current dishwasher more safely

If your dishwasher has a plastic interior, a few simple adjustments can reduce what transfers onto your dishes. You don't need to replace your machine right away to make improvements.

Use a lower heat or eco wash setting and skip the heated dry cycle — air drying reduces how much heat breaks down plastic components.
Inspect vinyl rack coatings regularly and use a rack repair kit to patch any chips or peeling before rust forms.

Choose a cleaner replacement

When it's time for a new dishwasher, prioritize models with a full stainless steel interior tub. This is the single most important material upgrade you can make. Stainless steel is non-reactive, handles high heat without breaking down, and is naturally resistant to odors and stains.

Look for models that specify "stainless steel tub" rather than just "stainless steel front" — the exterior finish and the interior material are often different.
