How We Vet Candles on Welpr

Last updated: March 17, 2026

Candles seem harmless, but many release synthetic fragrance, paraffin soot, and other toxins straight into your air. We keep it simple: clean ingredients, natural materials, and full transparency.

Here’s what we look for:

Unscented comes first

We love the subtle scent of a pure beeswax candle. When a candle is scented, it must use high-quality essential oils or herbs—never synthetic fragrance or “parfum.”

Only clean wax

We stick to natural waxes like beeswax or coconut. No paraffin. No petroleum blends.

Wicks that don’t pollute your air

Wicks must be made from cotton, wood, or hemp, never metal-core, coated, or containing synthetic threads.

Always free from:

  • Synthetic fragrance or “parfum”
  • Paraffin or petroleum-based wax
  • Plastic, metal-core, or coated wicks
  • Dyes, phthalates, and other unnecessary additives
  • Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s)

Look for the Welpr Approved tag

If a candle meets all of our standards (and every candle on Welpr does), you’ll see the Welpr Approved certification on the product card.
