We hold pet products to the same non-toxic standards we use for humans because they deserve safe, clean choices too. From food to flea prevention, everything is reviewed with our “if it’s not good enough for us, it’s not good enough for them” lens.
Here’s what we look for before adding a product to Welpr:
Food + Treats
We treat pet nutrition the same way we treat our own: real, whole food comes first.
- Simple, real food ingredient lists: Recognizable foods you can actually pronounce, and ideally human-grade.
- Minimal processing: Gently prepared—raw, air-dried, or freeze-dried to preserve nutrients.
- Preservatives: Only safe, food-grade options (like rosemary extract or mixed tocopherols) in minimal amounts.
- No artificial flavors, dyes, or sweeteners.
- Legume-free + grain-free whenever possible: Some legumes and grains (like peas, lentils, and soy) are linked to digestive issues and heart concerns in dogs.
- Sourcing matters: Non-GMO, organic, pasture-raised, or grass-fed whenever possible.
- Certifications like Clean Label Project whenever available.
Dental Care
We hold pet dental care to the same standards as our human oral care products—no artificial dyes, harsh sulfates, fluoride, parabens, or toxic preservatives. Only safe, functional ingredients that actually freshen breath and support gum health make the cut. And just as important, everything is free from xylitol, which is toxic to dogs.
Clothing + Bedding + Toys
We look for natural fibers (organic cotton, hemp, wool) whenever possible, or safe synthetics that are free from BPA, phthalates, and harmful finishes. Certifications like OEKO-TEX® or GOTS are a plus.
Bowls
Pet bowls should be held to the same standards as human serveware: stainless steel, ceramic, silicone, or glass instead of plastics, and always free from BPA, phthalates, lead, and toxic coatings.
Grooming + Flea Prevention
Your pet’s skin is just as sensitive as yours, so we follow our personal care standards: no synthetic fragrance, no parabens, no harsh surfactants. Flea prevention and treatment must avoid conventional chemical pesticides and rely on safer, plant-based alternatives.
All pet products on Welpr are Welpr Approved, so you’ll see that certification badge on the product card.
