How We Vet Wellness Products on Welpr

Last updated: March 17, 2026

Wellness products cover a lot of ground—from saunas to yoga mats to EMF-blocking devices—and not every category plays by the same rules. Unlike makeup or cleaning products, wellness gear isn’t always black-and-white “non-toxic.” Honestly, we weren’t sure how to approach this category at first. But since you love your wellness products (and so do we), we built clear standards so you can trust everything that makes it onto Welpr.

Here’s what we look for before adding a product to Welpr:

Materials

We prioritize non-toxic, natural materials wherever possible.

  • Saunas should be built from solid wood (not particle board or engineered wood), with low- or zero-VOC finishes and adhesives, and tested to show low- to zero-EMF levels.
  • Yoga mats should be made from cotton, cork, or natural rubber, or synthetics verified free of BPA and phthalates.
  • PEMF mats + other tech-heavy products often involve synthetics, but we look for brands with ethical sourcing and safer material standards to minimize unnecessary chemical exposure.
  • Water filters should use high-quality stainless steel or glass. If any plastic touches the water, it must be BPA-free.
  • Cold plunges should use ozone filtration or another safe method to keep water clean without added chemicals.
  • Electrical components in products like saunas and red light panels should have low- to zero-EMF exposure and low flicker.

Effectiveness + Testing

Wellness products have to work. We look for third-party testing, certifications, and real-world results (from us and the community) to back them up.

  • Water and shower filters should be proven to remove common toxins like PFAS, heavy metals, and chlorine—ideally backed by NSF certification.
  • Air filters must use True HEPA filtration, meaning they capture at least 99.97% of particles down to 0.3 microns.
  • Red light therapy devices and EMF protection gear should come from trusted brands with data from independent third-party testing.

Certifications

We highlight trusted third-party certifications like GOTS, GOLS, NSF, ROHS, and CE to confirm safety and quality. But certifications aren’t everything, especially in categories where they don’t exist (like PEMF mats or EMF-blocking gear). They can also be cost-prohibitive for smaller brands. That’s why we also feature products from brands that share independent test results or ones we’ve tested ourselves (yes, my EMF meter gets a lot of use).

We’ve sifted through all the options so you don’t have to. If it’s on Welpr, it’s something you can feel good about bringing into your home and daily routine.

Every wellness product here is Welpr Approved, and you’ll see that certification badge on the product card.
