How We Pick Products and Brands for Welpr
We built Welpr to make it easier to shop for products that are actually clean—not just “clean” on the label. If it’s going in your mouth, on your skin, or anywhere in your home, you deserve to know exactly what’s in it and how it was made.
Here’s what we look for before anything makes it onto the site:
Every category has its own standards
What counts as safe depends on the product and how it’s used. That’s why we created specific standards for every category:
Non-toxic, minimal ingredients and materials
We go for short ingredient lists and natural materials whenever possible. Fewer ingredients means fewer places for toxins to hide. We avoid anything linked to hormone disruption, cancer, reproductive harm, irritation, or common allergens.
We also avoid plastic unless it’s truly necessary. And if it is, it better be minimal, BPA- and phthalate-free, and ideally certified safe.
Certifications help, but they’re not everything
We highlight trusted third-party certifications like GOTS, OEKO-TEX, EWG VERIFIED™, and MADE SAFE® when available. But we don’t rely on them. They’re helpful, but not foolproof. A product doesn’t need a badge to be safe—it just needs to be clean, transparent, and from a brand we trust.
When there’s no perfect option
Some categories (like nail products and hair bleach) are tougher to get totally non-toxic. In those cases, we still share the cleanest option we could find with full transparency on what’s in it and what it’s free from.
If a product meets all our standards for that specific category, you’ll see our Welpr Approved tag. We’re proud that around 98% of the products on Welpr already meet our full criteria, and our goal is for that to be 100%.
We only work with transparent brands
We prioritize brands that disclose every ingredient and material, and that care about things like ethical sourcing, low-waste manufacturing, and fair labor. We especially love when an entire brand aligns with our standards so you can shop their whole line with peace of mind.
